Minority Enterprise Development Corporation of Tampa Bay, Inc. works to insure the success of minority owned businesses in the Tampa Bay area.

After the first year, it was clear an organization needed to be established to insure the continuation of what was formally called 'MED Week' in Tampa Bay.

In 1992, Minority Enterprise Development Corporation of Tampa Bay, Inc. was formed.

OUR history

Initially, Minority Enterprise Development (M.E.D.) Week events were coordinated by the Minority Business Development Center under the leadership of Thomas Huggins.

MED Corp is a partnership of public, private and nonprofit agencies representing Hillsborough, Pinellas and Polk Counties. Initially, Minority Enterprise Development Corporation of Tampa Bay was formed solely to insure the continuation of Minority Enterprise Development Week in the Tampa Bay community.

However, since inception, the organization has grown to focus on the growth and development of minority businesses year-round.

When the Department of Commerce closed the Tampa Office of the Minority Business Development Center, a group of concerned individuals took the lead to help aid in the success of minority owned businesses in the Tampa Bay area.
